Diagnosis: Hypothalamic hamartoma
- 16-year-old girl
- Refractory gelastic seizures
- MR scan: hypothalamic hamartoma
- Combined microscopic/endoscopic excision
- Seizure free at 3 years
EQUIPMENT USED
- Aesculap Minop endoscope
SURGICAL TIPS
- Craniotomy, interhemispheric approach, callosotomy, access in to the right lateral ventricle
- Once inside the lateral ventricle, the endoscope is used and advanced in to the third ventricle though the foramen of Monro
- Removal of the hamartoma piecemeal with the endoscopic biopsy forceps (the operation was performed before the advent of endoscopic CUSA)
